These two small cities were nearly completely destroyed during the earthquake of 1976, in which also thousands of people lost their lives. Thanks to an accurate reconstruction they have retrieved their original splendour. In Gemona the town hall with the three arches and the S. Maria Assunta dome, which has become the symbol of the Friulian rebirth after the natural disaster, can be admired again. Venzone, a small medieval town, offers very interesting buildings in Gothic style, a solid city wall, and next to the dome a chapel of the thirteenth century, where mummies are still preserved.
